Why at this time is still needed in Cache Memory Computer?
Cache memory is a secondary data storage medium high speed, where to store temporary data or information that is often used or accessed by the computer.
Cache Memory Function-> Speed up data on computer access-> Reduces processor work-> Bridging the difference in speed between the CPU and main memory.-> Accelerate the performance of memory
Location of Cache Memory
A. Contained in the processor (on chip)
Internal cache is placed in the processor so it does not require an external bus, then the time
access will be very fast
2. There are outside Processor (off chip)
located on the motherboard, this type of memory access speed is very fast,
meskipuntidak fast as cache memory of the first kind
Types of Cache MemoryA. L1 cache L1 cache is a small number of SRAM memory used as cache on the processor integrated together.- Useful for temporarily storing instructions and data, and ensure that the processor has a supply of data to be processed while the memory yangstabil retrieve and store new data.- L1 cache (Level 1 cache) also referred to as primary cache, the cache first, or the level one cache.- Transfer of data from L1 cache to the processor occurs near the speed of the fastest top speed registers
2. The meaning of the term L2 cache L2 cache is a small number of SRAM memory that is located on the motherboard close to the position of the base processor.- Useful for temporarily storing instructions and data, and ensure that the processor has a supply of data to be processed while the memory yangstabil retrieve and store the new data
- (Level 2 cache) secondary cache, second level cache, or a level two cache.- L2 cache has a size greater than L1 lbih but the transfer speed a little longer than L1cache.3. L3 cache is rarely there, only in a particular computer.
- Useful when there is a cache is missing "missing" on the L1 & L2 cache
- L3 cache has a size greater than lbih L1 and L2 but the speed
longer than L1cache transfer and L2 Cache.
Elements of Cache Memory- Mapping Functions (Mapping)
mapping main memory blocks into the cache line.• Mapping Direct (Direct Mapping)• Associative Mapping (Associative Mapping)• Set Associative Mapping (Set Associative Mapping)
- Replacement Algorithmto choose which data blocks in the cache that can be replaced with a new data block• Least Recently used (LRU)• First in, first out (FIFO)• Least frequently used (LFU)• Random
A. CPU reads the memory word2. Check the Cache Memory,.3 If there is going to be sent to the CPU.4 If no one will look into the Main Memory5.Dikirim to Cache Memory and sent to the CPU
CONCLUSION
because of the low-speed main memory than the processor speed, it is to the required one cache in anticipation of requests for data memory to use the CPU. If the data is taken directly from the main memory or it will take a long time which can lead to waste time waiting for instructions and data mengskses the main memory.Memory Cache then once the computer is still required.
